Topic: Master Blaster Blasts Back...continued

On the basis that this Forum was created to permit debate, please see below a continuation of Eric Kelly's discussion:

Here’s what I know will separate the men from the boys.  Any “wanna be” or “think I can” could write comments and critique. Can you do a survey? Ask how many people out there know how to trip a reinforced concrete building, up to 14 stories, with just a PC 400 sized excavator, no high reach? No damaging adjacent (40’ away) hospitals. No cables eitherJ

Ask how many people can set up a building, 14 stories with 120 columns per floor, steel, use just 1 excavator and have the whole thing come down at once to a pile 25’ high? Cables can be used.

Then ask, how many people can blow them down?  That includes all the necessary permits and licenses! Steel or concrete and composite.

How many people can go on a job where a contractor undermined silos 160’ tall and fix the problem without killing people, the same guy twice? Without explosives? No high reach either or ball and crane.

How many guys can do all of the above AND dismantle the same? Like a 275’ steel smokestack on an operating power plant and then trip the other 2 that are as tall and reinforced concrete.

Now I’m not talking about hiring a well trained crew of Engineers with PHD’s. No cheating or outsourcing to anybody…do it yourself with little assistance.  Let your own experience be the judge.

It will be interesting to see how many people have actually hands on capabilities of doing the above…I do!  The list goes on and on. We should see how we can squeeze bridges in there too…steel, concrete, suspended, cantilever, bascule trunnion, lift and cable suspended.

Throw in some expert witness capabilities when any type of blasting goes wrong?  That’s rock, buildings, terrorist acts, etc. Then ask how many “demo guys” can analyze ice jams and implement a program to change water flow? How about floor-by-floor demo to put the icing on the cake?

Been there…done that!

This is only a partial list of some of the things I have done. I’ve come from a pretty tough family and neighborhood. If the guy who thinks “I’m Girly” sees me in person, he most likely will change that tune! I was raised in a neighborhood where the Lithuanians fought the Italians and Irishmen and Polish and Jews on the weekend and were friends during the week in school. We played high school level football without pads. l was also raised in a neighborhood during the 60’s riots and I was one of the few “blue eyed, blonde hair” fellows. I’ve been hung, shot, stabbed and declared legally dead! I break Mustang horses as a hobby.

I’ve raised 5 girls and 2 boys. Ask the boys if “I’m Girly”.  Ask the girls the same.

That’s the way it is,

Eric

Re: Master Blaster Blasts Back...continued

Eric I do not know you but I think the best action to take is no action.  Let the investigation take place and do not react to anything said or done by your competitors.  You will find that behind every sucessfully person are a number of unsucessful ones that would like to see nothing more than your fall from grace.  I think you should not justify yourself to anyone.  What happened was unfortunate but at the end of the day no one was injured.

Re: Master Blaster Blasts Back...continued

At least you handled it and didn't try to play "Baghdad Bob" as your competitor would have.

"Pay no attention to those ambulances in the background. No one was hurt. The job was a total success!"

"10 Seconds before we pushed the button we told the Contractor it would fall that way therefore it's a complete success."

"It's a total success. We just wanted to get it to where we could reach it with a 60 meter high reach"

"We told them we were going to break windows. We just didn't tell them how many."

"It's not our fault. The main demolition contractor screwed it all up"

"Our records show the people Mover was already damaged before we got here"
